Green Woods Resorts is a four-star rated property in the lush western ghats at Kumily in Kerala. True to its name, it is a property laden with tall trees and a lush expanse of greens. Home to woodpecker, barbet and a rare nesting of Indian Grey Hornbill amongst various other species of birds, this is indeed a birder's delight.
We designed the new suites' landscape scheme, which includes Amaravathy - premium suites, Indeevaram - premium pool suite and Indraprastham - presidential pool suite. The Plumeria Court is a transition space between the old and new landscapes, with Heliconia and Acalypha adding to the guest experience. In the limited space, we tried to create habitats for red-whiskered bulbul, found commonly at the site. The softscape design uses careful intermixing of colour and texture to create focal elements that aid in orientation.
Our design interventions meant bringing new meaning to existing facilities, like adding a plunge pool to Rithika - two existing cottages. Minimal changes in the existing pool deck established a connection between the pool and nature, which otherwise was detached from the surroundings. The changes in the landscape in front of the main building and the new Ayurveda facility provide a fresh outlook to address the needs of the guests.
Heading to a site on the hills, 200 odd kilometers from our office, multiple times was challenging, but after reading the guest feedback, we feel humbled and wish to do those drives again.
